Electromagnetic compatibility tests (EMC testing) are required to ensure that electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) operates effectively and does not cause or suffer from electromagnetic interference.

Among them, immunity tests assess the product's resistance to electromagnetic interference, both from the power supply (conducted immunity) and from the surrounding environment (radiated immunity). The objective is to determine the product's ability to maintain its functionality and standard behaviour in the presence of such disturbances.

Emission tests, on the other hand, aim to check whether the product generates disturbances in the power grid (conducted emission) or in the environment (radiated emission). The aim is to ensure that emissions are within the limits defined by the relevant regulations.

At European level, Directive 2014/30/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council, dated 26 February 2014, harmonises electromagnetic compatibility laws in the EU, setting common standards for electronic devices. In Italy, it was incorporated by Legislative Decree No 80 of 18 May 2016, to align national regulations with European requirements.

Electrical safety tests are a critical and detailed investigation conducted on electrical equipment and devices. These tests aim to confirm to manufacturers that their products comply with European and international safety standards. The process includes the assessment of insulation, the resistance to overloads, the protection against unintentional contact with live parts and the analysis of other critical aspects, to prevent hazards such as electric shocks, fires and other threats to users.

Radio and wireless tests are specialised procedures designed to ensure that devices and systems operating on radio frequencies, such as mobile phones, Wi-Fi and other wireless communication devices, function effectively, efficiently and safely. These tests are essential to comply with European and international standards, preventing interference and ensuring the quality of communications.

The main purpose of these tests is to ensure that transmitters, once correctly installed, do not generate radio signals that could cause harmful interference. At the same time, the tests make sure that the receivers maintain optimal performance, ensuring their proper functioning and protection from potentially harmful interference.
